 Contests
The
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Breakfast Celebration®
was created in October 1999. This annual event is sponsored
by the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Scholarship
Committee of Cleveland, Ohio. The theme of the MLK Committee
is “Celebrating the life, work and legacy of Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr.” ™
One
of our major initiatives is the “Happy Birthday
Dr. King!”© Birthday Card Contest. Students
in grades 6 - 12 are invited to create birthday cards
using this title. Each of the 12 winners, known as
“MLK Holiday Scholars”, receives a scholarship,
a trophy, a book and three Breakfast tickets. During
the MLK Holiday Breakfast Celebration, the MLK Scholars
are presented to the Community. Their trophies are
presented by Corporate Donors and Media Partners whose
support is a vital part of the Breakfast.
Past MLK Holiday Scholars have used their scholarships
for after-school and summer enrichment programs, and
education at the following colleges and universities:

Western Reserve University – Cleveland, Ohio;
- Cleveland
State University – Cleveland, Ohio;
- Columbia
University – New York, New York;
- Cuyahoga
Community College – Cleveland, Ohio;
- Eastern
Michigan University – Ypsilanti, Michigan;
- Gannon
University – Erie, Pennsylvania;
- Miami
University – Oxford, Ohio;
- Morehouse
College – Atlanta, Georgia;
- University
of Akron – Akron, Ohio;
- Ursuline
College – Pepper Pike, Ohio.
